TheJokeDB has a JSON API, and it is meant to be used. Single jokes, a random pick, search and the tag vocabulary are open today, no key needed, at a fair rate limit. The API docs cover every endpoint, with an OpenAPI description you can feed to a client generator.

Public API access with your own key. A key unlocks the listing endpoints (walk a topic, a mood or a type, page by page), higher rate limits, and a way to send jokes in from your own app or bot. Keys are issued by hand for now; self-service sign-up, usage stats and official Discord, Slack and Telegram bots are on the way.

Ground rules

The API is for personal projects, research and small applications. Cache what you fetch, send a descriptive User-Agent, and credit TheJokeDB with a link where the jokes appear. The Terms have the full version.
