Jokes are meant to make people laugh, and not everyone laughs at the same thing. Please read this page before taking anything on TheJokeDB too seriously, including this page.
On taste, and the lack of it
Comedy does not pull its punches. It never has. A joke can take aim at anyone: a profession, a nationality, a faith, a politician, an illness, a death, your mother, or ours. That is not a flaw in the form; it is the form. The best jokes find the lighter side of a serious thing and hold it up for a moment, and the moment passes, and nobody is the worse for it.
So you will find jokes here that are dark, crude, irreverent or in questionable taste, and we publish them on purpose. We do not sand the edges off humour to spare the feelings of people who go looking for offence and are rarely disappointed. In our experience the groups a joke is supposedly aimed at are usually the first to laugh at it; the complaint tends to arrive from someone else, on their behalf, uninvited.
Publishing a joke is not an endorsement of the view it plays on. A joke about lawyers is not a position on lawyers; a joke about the afterlife is not theology. If you would rather not meet the sharper material, Family mode is on by default and keeps you to the clean shelf. If you read past it and find something you dislike, the remedy is the next joke.
There is a line, and it is drawn by us, not by the loudest voice in the room. Content that exists only to degrade rather than to amuse, and anything unlawful, does not get in. If you believe a joke has crossed that line, tell us at [email protected]; we read every report and we decide each one on its merits.
Ratings and Family mode are best effort
Every joke carries a rating from clean to explicit and a set of tags. These are assigned by people and software doing their best, and they will sometimes be wrong. Family mode is on by default and hides anything we have not rated clean, but it is a filter, not a guarantee. If you are showing the site to children, we recommend reading along.
Submitted content
Many jokes are submitted by visitors. They are reviewed before publication, but they are not written by us and do not represent our opinions. Credit names are given by the submitter and are not verified.
Not advice
Nothing here is medical, legal, financial or any other kind of professional advice. A joke about lawyers is not a legal opinion, and a joke about doctors is definitely not a diagnosis.
Accuracy and availability
We do not guarantee that the site, the jokes or the joke counts are accurate, complete or available at any given moment. Content can change or disappear without notice.
Advertising and links
Advertisements and links to other websites are not endorsements. Advertisers and linked sites are responsible for their own content, products and practices, and we are not.
Original work
Most jokes have been told so many times that nobody knows who told them first. If you believe we are hosting a joke you wrote and you would like it credited or removed, contact us and we will sort it out.
